The art of karate has been passed from generation to generation through oral tradition and hand to hand teaching.  The Okinawan Karate Club of Ann Arbor is a group dedicated to the teaching of Grandmaster Eizo Shimabukuro's Karate, Kobudo, and Jujitsu.  We offer classes for women, teens, and children.  Head Instructor Barbara L. Christensen hold the rank of 6th degree black belt and trains directly with Shimabukuro O'Sensei.

 

Our progams are designed to meet all ages and athetic abilities.  The Lil Dragons are geared for young karateka ages 4 - 6 as a head start program.  These Lil Dragons would then continue their martial arts studies in the Youth Karate Program designed for children and young teens between the ages of 7 - 14 years.  Youth classes are organized in beginner, intermediate and advanced and aims to provide martial arts training through the study of kata (forms), kumite (sparring techniques), kobudo (tradtitional Okinawan weapons - at advanced levels) and Okinawan history.   Intermediate and Advanced students who intend to continue their karate training though the Black Belt are invited to join the Black Belt Club.

 

Our curriculum includes traditional Shorin Ryu Okinawan Karate and Okinawan Kobudo.
